Eduroam
Eduroam In UCD
Eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. It's used to describe an authenticated access network available in UCD and in Universities worldwide. The service provides extended access to logged-in UCD staff, students and visitors from other institutions.
Instructions
Windows Setup:
1. Go to https://cat.eduroam.org/ and click the “download your eduroam installer”
button.
2. A list of institutions will appear. Use the search box to find University College
Dublin. Once you can see the University College Dublin option click on it.
3. Your operating system should be automatically detected. But It can also be selected
manually by clicking the Choose another installer to download link.
4. Click on the eduroam button to start the download. Once the download is complete,
open the downloaded file.
5. Opening the file will bring up a welcome to eduroam setup screen, click the
next button on this screen.
6. A pop-up will now appear making sure you are a member of UCD, click the
OK button
7. The user credentials window should now appear, You can fill in the Username
and password boxes with your ucd connect credentials. Once your
credentials have been entered you should click the install button.
8. Another box will appear asking you to confirm you are a member of UCD,
click the OK button.
9. You may be presented with the following message. If the details match the image below, click Yes to continue:
10. Once the loading bar has finished on the installer the window should change
to the installation complete page. When on this page click the finish button.
11. You should now be able to connect to eduroam in UCD or any other area with
Eduroam wifi.
Mac OS setup:
1. Go to https://cat.eduroam.org/ and click the “download your eduroam installer”
button.
2. list of institutions will appear. Use the search box to find University College
Dublin. Once you can see the University College Dublin option click on it.

manually by clicking the Choose another installer to download link.
4. Click on the eduroam button to start the download. Once the download is complete,
open the downloaded file.
5. A popup will now appear telling you that the profile needs to be approved in system
preferences.
6. Open system preferences and click on the profiles option at the bottom of the
window.
7. You should now see the eduroam profile listed on the left hand side. Ensure the
eduroam profile is selected before clicking the install button on the top right of the
window.
8. You may have to put in your laptop password to give admin permission to eduroam
9. Once permission has been given a new window will pop up asking for a username
and password, these will be your UCD Connect username and password. *Note:
Even though it says the password is optional it is actually required.*
10. Click the OK button to finish the install, it may take 10-15 seconds to finish installing.
11. You should now be able to connect to eduroam in UCD or any other area with
Eduroam wifi.
Android setup:
1. Download the “geteduroam” app from the google play store.
2. Once the app has downloaded, open it.
3. When the app opens use the “select an institution” search box to look for University
College Dublin.
4. Click on the University College Dublin option then click the next button.
5. Enter your UCD connect username and password into the username and password
box.
6. When you have entered your username and password click on the “CONNECT TO
NETWORK” button
7. A popup will now appear asking if you want to save this network. Click the save
button.
8. You will now be brought to a page telling you the eduroam setup is complete, click
the “OK” Button.
9. You should now be able to connect to eduroam in UCD or any other area with
Eduroam wifi.
10. If University College Dublin does not appear as an option then please visit an IT Centre

1.Open a web browser on the mobile device (Note:User must use the Safari web browser for this)
2.Go to https://cat.eduroam.org
3.Click on “download your eduroam installer” and follow the instructions. Enter the appropriate eduroam username and password when prompted.
4.If you encounter any problems, please contact the IT Services department or helpdesk for assistance.
What network ports are open on the eduroam wireless network in UCD?

- DNS: UDP/TCP 53 outbound to UCD DNS servers only
- HTTP: TCP/80 outbound only
- HTTPS: TCP/443 outbound only
- NTP UDP/123 outbound to time.microsoft.com, time.apple.com, time.android.com and UCD NTP servers only
- IMAP: TCP/143 outbound only
- IMAPS: TCP/993 outbound only
- POP: TCP/110 outbound only
- POP3S: TCP/995 outbound only
- SMTP/SMTPS: TCP/25, 465, 587 outbound only
- SSH: TCP/22 outbound only
- RDP: TCP/3389 outbound only
- VNC: TCP/5800 outbound only
- Passive (S)FTP: TCP/21 outbound only
- OpenVPN: UDP/TCP 1194
- Standard IPSec VPN: IP protocol 50 (ESP) and 51 (AH) both outbound and inbound; UDP/500 (IKE) outbound only, TCP 1723 outbound only
- MySQL: TCP 3306 outbound only
Restrictions on the eduroam wireless network in UCD
DHCP reserved/Fixed IP addresses - UCD does not offer DHCP reserved/fixed IP addresses to any device wishing to use UCD Wireless network
Wireless printing - UCD does not support the connection of printers or similar devices to the UCD Wireless network
Remote access - UCD does not support remote access to any device connected to the UCD Wireless network
Gaming Consoles - UCD does not support gaming consoles on the UCD Wireless network
Third Party VPN - UCD does not support third party VPN Applications on the Wireless network
Chromecast & Firestick - UCD does not support Chromecast, Firestick or similar streaming devices
Linux - UCD does not support Linux OS and Eduroam on Linux OS
Apple Air Play - UCD does not support Apple Air Play
Google Nest - UCD does not support Google Nest devices
